I’m super excited to welcome some more queer folks out to the farm where I have been a volunteer workshare for a bunch of years now. Scratch Farm is a small organic farm located on the Southside Community Land Trust’s Urban Edge Farm land. Here’s some info about the farm itself: http://www.farmfresh.org/food/farm.php?farm=764, a google map: http://tinyurl.com/scratchfarm, and you can email secretdoorprojects (a) gmail.com for detailed directions for biking or driving.
From 11am-1pm we’ll be helping with harvest & maybe doing some other farm projects. Around 1 we’ll stop for potluck lunch (everybody generally brings something to share) and then swim in the pond (gender-variant- & body-positive swimming, also swimsuit-optional, a bunch of people jump in nekkid but you can wear a garment if you like). After that, we’ll be helping with more farm projects / harvesting from 2:30-6. It’s a work day, but it’s not strenuous: there are lots of chances to take a break, drink some water, & eat a snack, and there’s a range of projects (hard-easy) to choose from. Come early and stay for lunch, or come later and stay to help out! Bring a water bottle, sunscreen/sun protection, a hat, & food to eat and share at lunch.
Queers & allies are invited to join us at the farm to create a queer & body-positive sanctuary space free from gender & body expectations… so please don’t make assumptions about anyone’s gender, ask which pronouns someone uses before talking about them, and no photography! :)
If you’re interested in riding bicycles out in a posse (it’s about a 7.5 mile bike ride), we’ll be meeting at 9:45 in Olneyville Square (at the intersection of Westminster St / Broadway & Manton Ave.) — meet at 9:45, leave at 10. There are some hills… we’ll wait for you. No rider left behind!
Email me back with any further questions, or to let me know if you’ll be coming on the bike ride! If you’ll be driving out & can offer a ride, or if you’ll be needing a ride, let me know & I’ll try to connect people up.
so looking forward — ian c.
